virginia wedding plannerEaston: For the bride who never wears makeup, what do you recommend for her to look beautiful in photos?

Lora: Take a deep breath and jump in!  You never wear a fluffy white gown, throw a party with all of your friends and family, and dance to Frank Sinatra until midnight (or maybe you do!).  Regardless, this day is special, so I recommend embracing the frills and fuss.  Make sure you have someone who will make you comfortable and who will pamper you every step of the way, so you feel absolutely stunning for your walk down the aisle.

Easton: Should a bride play up her eyes? Lips?  Are there rules of the trade for this?

Lora: I think it depends completely on the bride.  For evening weddings, I think emphasizing the eyes with sultry, smoky shadows is fun, but if you love a strong lip color then I say embrace that!  This is the day to really enjoy yourself and perhaps wear a bit more makeup than you normally do.  The one rule I have is that I advise against dark colors for both eyes and lips simultaneously.  It tends to look too much like burlesque… which is not my favorite look for a wedding.

wedding planner charlottesvilleEaston: Is there anything certain skin types or tones should avoid on the wedding day?

Lora: Above all, every bride should be certain her makeup artist has her correct skin color.  If you think you are darker or paler than average, make sure your makeup artist has the full spectrum of tones.  It’s never good to look washed out or too yellow on your wedding day!  If you have oily skin, avoid oil-based makeup and opt for an oil-free primer and setting powder.  If you have dry skin, try a hydrating primer and finishing cream for that dewy look.

Easton: What’s your favorite everyday product for brides… for anyone?!

Lora: For brides, definitely a touch up kit!  Every bride should have an arsenal of her favorite products the day of.  Just do it!  Your wedding day will be so much happier!  Get your makeup artist to provide you with a lip gloss, lipstick, mirror and matching bag... Favorite product in general?  Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Pen for under the eyes.  It’s like 12 hours of sleep in a pen!

best wedding plannerEaston: What is winter’s hottest makeup trend?

Lora: Lipstick!  I love lipstick!  Matte, beautiful lipstick. There is nothing quite as romantic in winter like Chanel’s matte lipstick with the pop-out container.  It’s my number 1 makeup accessory for a classic yet modern look.

Being a girl who doesn’t wear a lot of makeup, I love a bridal look that is classic and stunning, but doesn’t make the bride look outlandish. I can’t wait to see what my make up artist does in July!

  2. Dani says:

I really love classy, understated makeup for a bride. I imagine myself with more makeup on than I usually wear, but still looking and feeling natural.

  4. Dee says:

I think that it is best to look natural on your wedding day, but kick up the color a notch, because in photos you don’t want to look pale.

  5. You ladies probably know that I follow you on Facebook already. :)

My favorite wedding day look, make up wise, is a step or two above the natural look. I know most brides want to look natural, but I like just a tad more drama. I find some shimmer or smoke to the eye (depending on the time of day) very appealing!

  6. Amber says:

Oh my! Lovely photos, and I’d really like to try that makeup palette. I love simple and natural makeup at weddings, but also like vintage wedding makeup with soft eyes and a soft stained red lip. Thanks! (I also like on Facebook – Amber H)

  7. Kate Brimer says:

In true blushing bride fashion, I love soft and natural make-up. But I’m all for a little illuminator for a dewy, fresh look and false eyelashes for emphasis.

  8. I am LOVING false eye lashes right now. Perfect for a little drama on the eyes! : )

Fresh and glowing. I think a brides are always radiant, but a little extra glow from a make-up artist never hurts!

I’d love my makeup to look soft and romantic on my wedding day!

  12. Elisa Bricker says:

I love an elegant look. I think a little more than everyday make up is a must. A slightly pink cheek, and a smoky eye. Lately I’ve been loving false lashes used properly, to give brides a full look.

  13. Natalie Race says:

I love rosy cheeks on a bride.

What a great post! My wedding will be hollywood-glamour themed, so I’d like to incorporate some of that into my makeup. That said, I also think that it’s important to look like yourself on your wedding day! Don’t look back at pictures and say, “That totally isn’t me” – so my favorite look is classy! More color than normal, but not so much that it makes you into a different person. Most importantly, be comfortable!

  18. Saralyn says:

I just love a blushing bride. I think a rose cheek and a soft, glossy lip with a goldish-natural eye is so sweet!

  19. margaret says:

I just love a soft romantic feel to wedding day makeup – rosy cheeks, fluttery eyelashes, pink/purple/peach eyes, glowing skin, the works!

  21. I’ve seen many of a bride (who happen to be my best friends) done up by Lora Elaine. And each is different yet across the board just lovely. I LOVE the way Lora can make cheekbones stand out so well.

I love lora and Easton Events!

  22. Meg says:

    Rosy cheeks on a bride!

  23. Lizzie says:

My favorite wedding look has got to be false eyelashes. I’d never tried them before but Lora convinced me and WOW. They add so much drama and glamour, but they still look completely natural. I loved them!!

  24. Rachel says:

Well, for me Lora was my youth group leader when I was younger.. haha!

My favorite Wedding Day look would probably be a simple yet stunning look. Something along the lines of Belle and Audrey Hepburn mixed. Simple and stunning… but Classy!
